An Artist’s journey
Tarek Elkassouf is a Lebanese-Australian Artist based in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Working primarily with stone, Elkassouf approaches sculpture not as a process of addition or subtraction, but as a way of revealing what is already there. “I do not carve to remove,” he says, “I cut, slice, and finish; to open a space. A pause. A breath.” These spaces in between are where meaning begins. Whether in text or in form, Elkassouf is drawn to the space between two words, between two notes, where the silences become the most resonant.
His sculptural language draws inspiration from the ancient craft traditions of the SWANA region, where tools, touch, and time are inseparable. Elkassouf identifies as an artist with a thousand hands, a reference to the countless master craftsmen across generations who have shaped his process, passed down techniques, and imbued their labor with intangible stories.
Elkassouf’s work was exhibited at International Cultural Institutions such as the Institute of the Arab World in France, Seoul Museum of Art in South Korea, Bassam Freiha Foundation in The UAE and Ithra in Saudi Arabia. He repeatedly exhibited at leading international and regional fairs, including Abu Dhabi Art, Art Dubai, and MENART Fair (Paris).
His work is represented in international galleries and continues to evolve through commissions, public art, and cross-cultural collaborations.
